Over the last few years a huge amount of people have embraced working outside of traditional workplaces.
Many jobs can be done anywhere with a computer and good WIFI: web dev, online services, investment…
Considering my appetite for knowledge, history and other cultures I have built Mercenaire in a way that I can travel as often as I want while bringing the company with me.
Building a location independence business is pretty easy.
First: we do not operate with any printed paper. All of our invoicing, accounting and systems have been dematerialized so that being away doesn’t impact the day to day running of the agency. It also means we are more environmentally friendly. Seriously in 2016 no business should have to be printing anything anymore, or sending invoices in the post. Whenever i get one of those these days I feel like I’m dealing with a seriously obsolete process.
The other beautiful thing is that it allows me to connect with people on an unusual number of territories. Increasing my network in London, Milan, New York, Sydney has been very beneficial and i’m now able to offer my artists opportunities globally, not just locally.
If you start looking into this trend you’ll find that it is getting bigger by the minute and a bunch of companies are now organising logistics for location independent businesses or individuals, like this one. This is cool too, and this.
No more paper, no more commute, no more routine, and more happiness, knowledge, opportunities and fun. As a matter of fact I feel the divide between holidays and work no longer applies to me.
The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which.
He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both.
